报告摘要:

Electrodeposition is an ancient technique dating back to Faraday’s era. The Faraday’s Law, which we learned from high school textbook, describes the quantitative relationship between the consumed charge and the quantity of deposit and applies to most of the electrodeposition systems such as electroplating of metal, electropolymerization of conductive polymers. In these processes, soluble precursors (e.g. metal ions, monomers) undergo electrochemical oxidation or reduction to form insoluble deposits, so the deposition is DIRECTLY driven by electrochemical reactions. On the other hand, electrodeposition can also be driven INDIRECTLY by electrochemically generating catalysts or changing the environment (such as ionic strength). For example, sol-gel is not an electrochemical process, but sol-gel films can be electrodeposited. The driving force is the electrochemically generated OH- ions on the cathode, which serve as the catalyst for gelation of the sol. Similarly, nanoparticles can be stably dispersed in a certain pH range and ionic strength, and they may precipitate and deposit following an electrochemical stimulation (change of local pH or ionic strength). In this presentation, I will introduce some indirect electrodeposition processes and their applications. Moreover, considering that Faraday’s Law does not apply in these processes, new kinetic models are desired to quantitatively understand and manipulate the process. Preliminary works and ideas in this aspect will also be shared and discussed.
