个人简介:
Professor Nai-Teng Yu received his Ph.D. In Biophysical Chemistry from MIT. After one year postdoctoral training at MIT-Harvard joint program, Professor Yu started his academic career at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He is a pioneer in eye-lens studies by laser Raman scattering. This project had been supported by NIH for more than 18 years. In 1989 he came to Hong Kong as the founding Head of Department of Chemistry of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. While at HKUST, Professor Yu had worked as a Chief Representative in China for Germany’s Fraunhofer-Institut Biomedizinische Technik. He retired from HKUST in 2005. In 2016 he and Mark Samuels co-founded the present YUSCAN USA LLC, Norcross, Georgia USA
讲座摘要:
We have developed a noninvasive eye-lens optical measuring device that is AGEs-based, hand-held and self-scanned, capable of detecting early development of pre-diabetes, different stages of diabetes, and possibly the early signals of diabetes complications. The measurement does not require pupil dilation and takes only ~ 6 seconds. With our self-referenced algorithms, we hope to be able to objectively define: normal healthy, pre-diabetes, and diabetes subjects.
In the presentation, it will be explained why eye-lens AGEs accumulation is an ideal biomarker for monitoring the development of diabetes and its complications.
It will also be shown that AGEs-based diabetes diagnostics and screening method have definite advantages over the traditional blood glucose-based methods.
