    Although doping alkali metals into carbon materials was demonstrated to create highly conductive carbon materials in 1991, the dopants were located on the carbon surface and could be easily oxidized, leading to a great loss in conductivity. As an ideal material, alkali metal atoms must be completely surrounded by carbon atoms to form alkali-metal-embedded carbon material. Such a hypothetical material has not yet been successfully synthesized for 25 years. In this presentation, Prof. Hu will talk about his group’s recent success of synthesizing highly-conductive porous Na-embedded carbon nano-wall materials (with large accessible surface areas) using an invented reaction between liquid Na and CO gas. The novel material solves the critical issue “the contradiction between high electrical conductivity and large accessible surface area” in current electrode materials. Furthermore, the synthesized material was demonstrated as an excellent electrode for (1) dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), leading to high power conversion efficiency up to 11.03% and (2) supercapacitors, resulting in very high areal capacitance of 1.14 F/cm2.

    胡云行博士是上海交通大学环境科学与工程学院讲席教授、可持续能源与环境研究中心主任、美国密歇根理工大学麦克阿瑟讲席教授。他是美国科学促进会会士 (AAAS Fellow)、美国化工学会会士 (AIChE Fellow)、 英国皇家化学会会士 (RSC Fellow)。2014 年 当选美国化学会能源与燃料分会主席,2015 年 当选国际氢气能源协会储氢分会主席。他是4本美国化学会系列丛书的主编,Nature group、ACS、RSC、Wiley、Elsevier 等著名出版社的8个国际学术杂志的编委。先后主持过40次国际学术会议,并在国际学术会议、 世界著名大学和研究中心做特邀报告100多次。他的研究包括催化、纳米材料、清洁能源,储氢材料、二氧化碳转化、量子化学计算和太阳能源等。他在国际著名学术杂志上发表学术论文近200篇。
